What Exactly Is Liquid Chlorine?

I'm sure you've seen these bottles at your distributor or pool store, and you recognize this as liquid chlorine. But this is not liquid chlorine. Stand by for the real truth on just what you have been adding to your pool.

Fact is what's in this bottle is not liquid chlorine.

To be completely accurate, liquid chlorine is actually elemental chlorine compressed into a liquid. What we have here is liquid sodium hypochlorite, which is a very effective chlorinating compound and not a toxic chemical. I know what you may be thinking. What is sodium hypochlorite?

And how safe is it for my swimming pool? Well, back in the eighteenth century, the world was overrun with dirt and germs. As a result of this, the mortality rate from infectious diseases was very high. At this time, a chemist took some simple salt and combined it in a solution along with sodium hydroxide, and created a powerful disinfectant known as sodium hypochlorite or Liquid Bleach.

That's right. This product you are putting in your pool is the same formula as the household bleach that you use for your laundry, and to disinfect your kids toys or your baby bottles. The difference with this pool formula is that this is two to five times as strong as what you can get at your local market. This is an important concept to understand.

Because many times today when we hear the word chlorine, people react based on negative reports about the misuse of chlorine. So when you tell someone you're putting chlorine in their swimming pool, they think you're poisoning their family. Nothing could be further from the truth. Looking at the beneficial uses of sodium hypochlorite over time, we can see that rather than being some evil toxic chemical, it actually has been a proven, safe destroyer of germs.

And due to the proper use of this versatile chlorinating compound, millions of lives have been saved throughout history. The life saving properties of industrial grade liquid bleach have been safely used in the United States since the nineteen hundreds to keep our drinking water protected from disease causing organism. The proven result of using chlorinating compounds to treat drinking water lowered the cases of cholera in the United States from twenty five thousand annually in nineteen hundred to just twenty cases by the year nineteen sixty. So how does it work?

When you add liquid bleach into your water, you immediately create a powerful germ killing agent known as hypochlorous acid. This amazing killing agent is highly effective at inactivating up to ninety nine point nine percent of bacteria in pool water. The human body makes use of this very same chemistry. Our white blood cells create hypochlorous acid from the sodium chloride in the bloodstream to fight off invasive bacteria in our bodies.

Pretty amazing. The chemistry of sodium hypochlorite uses this same natural defense for your pool. Hassa Santa Chlor is one of the purest forms of liquid bleach available. It starts as common salt, which is broken into chlorine and sodium hydroxide, and then recombined with the water to make bleach.

We use a high power filtration method that polishes our bleach and ensures the best strength and the purest product. Our twelve point five percent HASSA SANACORE provides twelve point five parts per million per gallon in ten thousand gallons of pool water. And HASA SANACORE does not contribute any cyanuric acid or calcium to the pool.

Best of all, when the bleach completes the dirty work of sanitizing your water, the only remaining byproduct is a small amount of salt.

That's it.
