Shocking with Salt Chlorine Generators

What's the absolute hands down best way to shock a pool with a salt chlorine generator? Let's find out.

Salt water generators have gained in popularity. Salt pools often add to swimmer comfort with less skin and eye irritation. Saltwater pool systems are convenient because they produce free chlorine directly into the pool. There's no more running to the pool store for bulky buckets or bottles of chlorine.

And it's important to understand that saltwater pools have an inline system installed that creates active free chlorine in the water as it is needed. From that standpoint, they are the same as any pool that is chlorinated with a store bought chlorine sanitizer, and they need to be maintained in the same way. Shocking your pool weekly is vital during the hot summer swim season. Regular shocking of the pool helps keep it sparkling clean and easy to maintain.

Even salt water generator suppliers understand the need to shock a pool. Most salt water generators on the market today have a built in boost function.

This allows the unit to be run at a higher voltage and for longer periods in order to increase the chlorine parts per million in the pool. However, this boost mode does not provide the best shock results. As the name implies, shocking the pool means creating a sudden jolt or spike in the parts per million of chlorine. This spike burns out waste contaminants from swimmers quickly.

Regular shocking can keep the pool water from looking dull and hazy. Chlorine levels over a slow period of time may not always create the spike that you need. If you don't run the boost long enough, you may never reach a high enough chlorine level to remove those unwanted contaminants. The boost energy also uses a lot of electricity, and it shortens the life of the generator cell.

That can be a costly replacement cost, between five hundred and seven hundred and fifty dollars and nobody's got time for that. There are several products at the pool store that are sold as the Jolt shock. Many stores offer quick shock bags that usually are calcium hypo While these may be sold as a cheap and effective shock, they are not designed for use with salt water generators. The reason is because calcium hypochlorite leaves a byproduct of calcium behind in the pool water.

This is exactly what your salt cell does not want. Increased levels of calcium in the pool water will lead to damaging scale on the unit cells. This will minimize production of the chlorine sanitizer and shorten the life of the unit. Unless your water is soft, calcium shocks should be avoided in salt pools.

Your salt water generator will thank you. At HAASA, we know we have the absolute best shock treatment for salt pools.

Our HAASA SANACLOR is a liquid chlorinating compound that produces pure free chlorine, just like your backyard salt water generator does, only on a much larger scale. We start with salt, add electricity, and create chlorine and sodium hydroxide, which is then converted into an effective pool sanitizer known as sodium hypochlorite. This is a higher concentrated version of the same liquid bleach that is used for laundry and disinfection cleanup. When added to the pool, HASSA SANACLAUR is one hundred percent dissolved and ready for action.

There's no ramp up or dissolving of solid products, so it creates an immediate chlorine spike. The power of sodium hypochlorite in HASSA SANACLORE breaks up unwanted contaminants and puts the sparkle back into the water. And the only byproduct of HASSA SANACLORE is simple salt, exactly what your salt water generator needs to keep producing a regular protective residual of free chlorine sanitizer.
