Tri-Chlor is Killing Your ORP
Are you using trichloro tablets to care for your pool water? Stay tuned as we break down why that's not such a great idea.
The usage of trichloro tablets to introduce chlorine into your pool also introduces additional cyanuric acid. That acid doesn't break down over time and will affect your ORP or oxidation reduction potential. ORP is basically the measurement of how effective your chlorine is at breaking down contaminants. The buildup of cyanuric acid retards the effectiveness of your chlorine, and it becomes slower to break down contaminants.
Stop overdosing your pool with acid, which is what you do by keeping it on a steady diet of trichlor tabs. So how do we stop cyanuric acid buildup? Simple. Stop using these trichlor tablets as a primary way to chlorinate a pool.
Get back to cleaning your water with unstabilized chlorine. For more than fifty years, liquid chlorine has proven to be an effective way to deliver chlorine without any other harmful additives. With thirty to fifty parts per million of cyanuric acid, your chlorine can be incredibly efficient in keeping your water clean. But getting that proper dosage from a trichlor tablet is impossible since CYA creeps up with every tab you dissolve in the pool.
Tabs may seem like the easy and more cost effective way to sanitize the pool, but when you look more into the matter, it's pretty clear. Liquid chlorine is still the best way to keep pool water clean. Hey. This has been Terry with HAASA.
